Manipur Police uncover 30 acres of Poppy plantations, four arrested in Ukhrul

In a late-night operation on December 6-7, Manipur Police arrested four individuals linked to illegal poppy cultivation in the Khamason range of Ukhrul district. Acting on specific intelligence, the police discovered around 30 acres of poppy plantation. The arrested individuals, identified as Peimi Ramsak (27), Lightson Shimrah (49), Kapangkhui Khashim, and Yatei SV (22), were taken into custody. Officials also seized an air gun and two knives during the operation.
On December 7, a joint team comprising Manipur Police, forest department personnel, and an executive magistrate conducted a poppy destruction drive at Mao Pungdong under Mao Police Station. The team destroyed one acre of poppy plantation and initiated action against the village chairman of the area.
In a separate operation in L. Jangnomphai, Kangpokpi District, security forces recovered a significant cache of arms and explosives. The recovery included a 7.62 mm sniper rifle, three pistols, a .303 bolt-action rifle, grenades, explosive materials, various types of ammunition, anti-riot equipment, and a Baofeng radio set.
