Imphal, Sept 2: As part of the nation-wide general strike called by All India Trade Union Congress (AITUC), the Anganwadi Workers and Helper Union Manipur stage a sit in protest at front of GM hall Imphal today.
The AITUC is staging the countrywide protest demanding increase of the honorarium of the workers to Rs 15 thousand and to Rs 8 thousand for helpers. The AITUC also demand adequate honorarium in uniform manner to all Anganwadi Workers across the country and also for promotion of qualified Anganwadi helpers to the vacant post of anganwadi worker.
Speaking to the media persons, L Sotin Kumar, General Secy. AITUC, Manipur said that state government should immediately review the order of the retirement or removal the Anganwadi workers and helpers from their post without any pension benefits. He demanded pension on retirements of Rs 1.5 lakh and Rs 1 lakh for the workers and helpers.
He further said that the state government should check the price-hike of essential commodities, as well as find a way for solution to the rising unemployment problems. SotinKumar further urged the government to implement the Food Security Act.
