Imphal, Jan 27:

The Government of Manipur has announced the establishment of a dedicated Integrated Anti-Extortion Cell under the Home Department. This initiative will involve representatives from the State Police, Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF), and Assam Rifles/Army, aiming to tackle extortion-related activities effectively. The Toll-Free number for the Anti-Extortion Cell, operational 24×7, is 1800 202 3326.
According to an order issued by Prashant Kumar Singh, Chief Secretary of Manipur, the initiative seeks to develop a robust response mechanism to address extortion demands and threats, ensuring public safety and security. The government noted that incidents of individuals, including government officials, receiving threats through calls, messages, or letters from unlawful organizations demanding money have significantly impacted the law-and-order situation in the state.
The government has urged the public, including government officials, to report any such cases of threats or extortion to the Integrated Anti-Extortion Cell using the toll-free number. Upon receiving a report, the cell will coordinate with relevant police stations to take prompt and appropriate action. Additionally, the public has been advised to avoid visiting unsafe locations to minimize risks.
In its appeal, the Government of Manipur called for the full cooperation of citizens to combat these unlawful activities. It reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding everyone from disturbing extortion demands and ensuring a secure environment for all residents of the state.
