Imphal, Aug 8:
A video that recently went viral on social media, allegedly defaming Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh, has been labeled as doctored by state authorities. In a statement issued by the Directorate of Information and Public Relations (DIPR), the Government of Manipur confirmed that the audio recording circulating on various platforms, falsely attributed to the Chief Minister, is a fabrication.
The government has described the video as part of a malicious effort by certain groups to incite communal violence and derail the ongoing peace process, which has been initiated at multiple levels. According to the government’s analysis, a coordinated campaign is behind the spread of this video, with several X (formerly Twitter) accounts sharing the audio with similar captions. A screenshot provided by the government highlights the orchestrated nature of this campaign.
In response, Manipur Police has launched an investigation to identify the origins of the defamatory content. The government has pledged to take legal action against all individuals and organizations involved in the conspiracy.
Citizens have been urged to remain vigilant and refrain from sharing unverified information. The government emphasized that restoring peace and harmony among communities is of utmost importance and made it clear that any actions threatening the peace process will not be tolerated.
