Imphal, June 6,

Social Welfare and Cooperation Minister  Nemcha Kipgen today exclaimed that one should plant trees on every opportunity or occasion that we can throughout the year, thus making the environment friendlier and healthier. She believes that healthy environment will hugely contribute in moulding healthy lifestyle and developed society.
Nemcha Kipgen was addressing the gatherings as part of the World Environment Day Observance organised by the Cooperative Department at its Lamphelpat Office compound.
The Minister along with Principal Secretary Cooperation Shri J.C. Ramthanga also planted tree saplings inside the premises as part of the observance. This is the first time in Department’s history to organise such event.
She further stressed that one should keep the environment clean and minimise polluting it. She called upon all to join hands and work towards protecting the environment for the sake of future generations.
Nemcha exhorted people to take pride in the number of trees planted by them the same way they take pride in worldly possessions. It is our responsibility to preserve it for the future generations, she added.
It may be noted that India is host of this year’s World Environment Day under the theme “Beat Plastic Pollution”.
