More than 80 vehicles, including goods-laden trucks, LPG tankers, and oil tankers, were left stranded on Wednesday morning due to landslides at two locations near Nungkao village in Tamenglong district along the Imphal–Jiribam road. The disruption severely impacted traffic movement between Manipur and Assam.
According to officials, the landslides, triggered by continuous rainfall over the past three days, affected nearly 80 meters of road at two separate stretches. Vehicles heading towards Silchar from Imphal, including empty trucks and private vehicles, are also waiting for debris clearance to resume their journey.
Construction and repair companies ABCI and NIDCL have promptly begun debris clearance operations, deploying three excavators to remove the accumulated soil. Officials estimate that it may take around five hours to restore connectivity along the route.
A CRPF convoy was also affected by the fresh landslide, which occurred at around 6:30 am. Authorities noted that despite Tuesday’s successful movement of 100 vehicles carrying essential items along NH-37, the situation remains sensitive. Security measures have been heightened in vulnerable areas, and security convoys are being provided on critical stretches to ensure the safe passage of vehicles.
