The Kanglei Yawol Kanna Lup (KYKL) has announced the death of one of its cadres, Pathou Pvt. Moirangthem Nanao alias Ngamba (35), in a sniper attack on May 19 along the Indo-Myanmar border. The attack reportedly occurred while he was on frontline duty under the outfit’s armed wing, the Meeyamgi Yawol Lanmee (MYL).
In a statement, KYKL alleged that the attack was carried out by Indian security forces and their proxy groups, including the Kuki National Front (B). The group claimed the act was part of an ongoing “proxy war” to weaken the Meetei community and destabilise Manipur.
Pathou Nanao, a native of Tuibong in Churachandpur district, joined KYKL in November 2024 and completed basic military training as part of the 2025 second batch. He was inducted into MYL in March this year. KYKL described him as a disciplined and dedicated revolutionary who gave up civilian life to serve what the group terms the “national cause.”
The outfit paid tribute to Nanao’s sacrifice, stating that his death would be honoured as a martyrdom in defence of Manipur’s identity and future.
The group extended condolences to Nanao’s family and called on its members to remain steadfast in their struggle.
