Imphal, Sept 8:

A conglomerate of Meira Paibis and civil society organizations under the banner of Jiri Apunba Lup (JAL) has accused armed Kuki militants involved in narco-terrorism of carrying out a deadly attack in the Meitei village of Ningthem Khunou, Jiribam district. According to a statement from JAL, the militants allegedly looted Rs. 10 lakhs in cash and gold worth Rs. 1 lakh after fatally shooting a villager while he was asleep.
The incident occurred on September 7, 2024, when the victim, identified as Yurembam Kulabi Singha, also known as Kulendra, was shot at close range while sleeping in his home. The attackers reportedly infiltrated the village early in the morning, killing the innocent villager and looting valuables.
JAL’s statement also mentioned that the militants ambushed and killed a village volunteer who was defending the area, while several others sustained injuries. The organization condemned the recurring violence, emphasizing the plight of the Meitei community, which they say has been targeted repeatedly by well-armed Kuki militants.
Expressing frustration and sorrow, JAL questioned the government’s inaction, stating that both the central and state authorities have failed to take effective measures to safeguard the lives and property of innocent civilians. They urged the Meitei people to unite and face the threats together, as the situation has become increasingly dire.
