Imphal, May 13: The Kuki Students Organisation (KSO) in collaboration with IHBT – RIMS, organised its annual blood donation camp at Kuki Inn today to facilitate blood banks at hospitals in Imphal. This year it is being conducted to coincide with the centenary celebration of the Anglo-Kuki War 1917-19. According to a press correspondence issued by its general secretary Selboi Haokip, the donors paid tribute to their forefathers who had given their blood, sacrificed their lives for freedom of the realm in the face of British imperialism. The event was inaugurated by TT Haokip, chairman of Hill Areas Committee. Appreciating the effort of the KSO, he encouraged it to continue its yeoman service of helping the society . Dr A Barindra Sharma, Head of IHBT -RIMS, explained the technical aspects of blood donation to the volunteers and stated that blood obtained from voluntary donors is free from contamination and blood from unscrupulous donors are checked. More than 100 volunteers donated one unit each of blood for RIMS blood bank. “KSO not only attends to student’ s welfare but also renders yeoman service to people in need of medical attention, especially poor and ignorant people who comes to Imphal for health treatment. Patients who require blood transfusion and their families often faced problem due to lack of blood in the blood banks. Therefore it is the intention of KSO to augment and facilitate the blood bank of hospitals so that these problems are averted,” the press statement said. The blood donation campaign is one of the humanitarian efforts of the KSO to help build a more humane and charitable society , it added and expressed gratitude to the volunteers who donated blood today . The KSO informed that another blood donation camp is being organised on July 1, 2017 in collaboration with Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS)
