Khwairamband Keithel shuts protesting arrest of 3 individuals

All shops and business establishments including vendor stalls in and around Khwairamband Keithel today remain shut today following 24-hour total shutdown called by the Bazaar Shop Owners’ Community, protesting the arrest of two non-Manipuri individuals and one local by the city police.
The total shutdown, announced by the Bazaar Shop Owners’ community, will be effective until Tuesday midnight. All the shops have been closed from today.
Three individuals, including two non-locals, were arrested by the city police for extortion on behalf of an underground outfit. The three persons have been identified as Konthoujam Kumar Singh, 46, of Konthoujam Mamang Leikai; Ankur Mahawar, 40, of Thangal Bazar; and Naveen Mahawar, 48, of Thangal Bazar.
Yesterday, they were produced before the Court of Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) Imphal West and have been remanded to police custody until May 24.
