Justice Kempaiah Somshekar assumes charge as Chief Justice of Manipur High Court

Justice Kempaiah Somshekar formally assumed charge as the Chief Justice of the Manipur High Court on May 22, 2025, following the official notification issued by the Ministry of Law and Justice (Department of Justice), Government of India. The notification was released from Jaisalmer House, 26, Man Singh Road, New Delhi.
A solemn ceremony was held, where Justice Somshekar was administered the oath of office by Manipur Governor in the presence of judges, senior advocates, and government officials. His appointment marks a new chapter in the judiciary of the northeastern state.
Justice Somshekar brings with him a wealth of judicial experience and a distinguished career spanning over three decades. He began his legal practice in the Karnataka High Court, handling a wide spectrum of cases, including constitutional, civil, and criminal matters. Recognized for his legal acumen and integrity, he was elevated as a judge of the Karnataka High Court in 2011.
Over the years, he presided over several landmark cases and was known for his judicious balance of legal principles and humanitarian considerations. Before his elevation to the Manipur High Court, he served as the Acting Chief Justice of the Karnataka High Court, where he played a crucial role in judicial reforms and digitalization efforts.
Justice Somshekar is also credited with championing alternative dispute resolution mechanisms and has been a vocal advocate for legal awareness among marginalized communities.
