The Jawaharlal Nehru Manipur Dance Academy (JNMDA) is actively participating in two major cultural events this October, showcasing Manipuri traditions on a national stage.
An 18-member cultural troupe from JNMDA, led by Th. Parul Devi, Junior Production Assistant, departed Imphal on October 3 for the Meera Mahotsav at Merta, Rajasthan. The troupe will perform the Meera dance-drama on October 5, as part of the grand celebration. Sponsored by the Sangeet Natak Akademi, New Delhi, this cultural presentation highlights the rich artistic heritage of Manipur. The troupe is expected to return to Imphal on October 7.
Meanwhile, another event, the 3-Day Festival of Raas Leela, is being organized by JNMDA in collaboration with the Rajarshi Bhagyachandra Cultural Foundation, Thouda Bhabok Leikai. This festival will take place across multiple venues in Uttar Pradesh from October 6 to 9, 2024, to commemorate the 226th death anniversary of Rajarshi Bhagyachandra. Performances will be held in Ayodhya on October 6, Radha Kund on October 8, and Vrindavan on October 9.
The festival’s inaugural function on October 6 in Ayodhya will be graced by Lakshman Prashad Acharya, Governor of Manipur and Chairman of JNMDA, alongside guests from the Sangeet Natak Akademi. Another cultural troupe, consisting of 36 members including gurus, students, and artists, led by W. Jikendrajit Singh, Programme Officer at JNMDA, left Imphal on October 4 to participate in this event. The troupe is expected to return to Imphal on October 10.
