JAC urges capital punishment for Ngangom Nevy’s killers

Imphal, Feb 1:

The Joint Action Committee (JAC) against the brutal killing of Ngangom Nevy has explicitly called for the imposition of capital punishment upon all individuals found guilty of this gruesome crime. Ngangom Nevy, a 17-year-old hailing from Sugnu Awang Leikai, fell victim to the brutality of Kuki militants on May 28, 2023, and the skeletal remains were tragically discovered in Sokom village within the Chandel district yesterday.
The grieving family, led by Ngangom Nevy’s father, N. Sanakhomba, reported the disappearance to Sugnu Police Station on May 31, 2023, as the young boy’s body remained untraceable until that date. The JAC, echoing the sentiments of the bereaved family, not only demands the ultimate punishment for the perpetrators but also seeks justice in the form of a government job for a family member.
In addition to these appeals, the JAC has raised concerns about the presence of Assam Rifles in the Sugnu area and urges their removal within a week. This call for action is underlined by the disturbing video depicting the brutal killing of Nevy by Kuki militants, which went viral on social media platforms. Consequently, state security forces promptly initiated a search operation on Wednesday, beginning at 11:10 am, ultimately leading to the discovery of Ngangom Nevy’s skeletal remains around 2:50 pm on the same day. The urgency and severity of the situation have spurred the community into collective action, seeking not only justice but also systemic changes to prevent such atrocities in the future.
