Acknowledging the stunning performance of weightlifter and Padma Shri awardee Km. Saikhom Mirabai Chanu’s recent feat at the Tokyo Olympics, a team of District Administration, Imphal East led by Khumanthem Diana Devi, IAS visited the Olympian’s residence at Nongpok Kakching of Imphal East District today.
 Mirabai won a silver medal at the Tokyo Olympics 2020 in Women’s 49 kg category.
The visit was to honour her for her outstanding performance at the Tokyo Olympics and for setting examples for the youth of Manipur especially the girls of the State. The Deputy Commissioner presented Mirabai with a bouquet, a memento, and gifts. 
The DC was accompanied by N. Herojit Meitei, IPS, Superintendent of Police, Addl. Deputy Commissioner, Chief Executive Officer, Imphal East Zilla Parishad, Sub Divisional Officers of Porompat/ Keirao Bitra, and District Social Welfare Officer.
While congratulating the Olympic Silver Medallist, the DC also said that Mirabai is the real ‘Gem of India’ and is a perfect idol of ‘Beti Bachao Beti Padhao’. She has become a symbol of women empowerment and had shown the world that, it is not gender that counts but will and determination that leads to success, the DC added.  
The DC also praised the parents of Mirabai for encouraging her to follow her dreams. She appealed to all the parents of the State not to clip the wings of a girl child merely because of her gender but to allow every girl child to come out of the four walls of the kitchen and household works. 
Mirabai was also requested by the Deputy Commissioner to extend co-operation in awareness programmes taken up by the District from time to time to reach out to maximum people.

Officers of Anti-Smuggling Unit, Customs Division, Imphal, acting on the basis of specific information intercepted one Tata Truck bearing Regn. No. NLOIK-8678 driven by one person Mohd Tamijur Rahaman, 31 yrs, S/o Md Abdul Rahaman, resident of  Paobitek Mayai LeiIcai, Paobitek, Wangoi, Imphal West, and recovered 8550 gram of Brown Sugar from the driver's backseat, Yesterday at around 17:15 hrs. The accused was intercepted at Mantripukhri. along NH-2 (Imphal Dimapur Road). lmphal East. The drugs was packed in Eleven packets wrapped with adhesive tape.
A Press release said, a case has been registered under the relevant provisions of NDPS Act, 1985. Mohd Tamijur Rahaman along with 8550gm of Brown Sugar and a 12-wheeler TATA truck which was used as a conveyance for transporting the contraband drugs has been seized under the relevant provisions of NDPS Act. 1985. The total value of the seized contraband drugs along with the truck is collectively found to be Rs. 8,75,00,000/-(Rupees eight crores seventy five lakhs) only. “

The Delhi Commission for Women has taken suo-moto cognizance on media reports of an alleged incident of racial discrimination and sexual harassment against a group of North-Eastern girls in Hauz Khas Village area in Delhi.

It has been reported that a few men stopped these girls and tried to sexually harass them asking them their “hourly rate for sexual activities”.

The girls captured the incident and shared the same on social media platforms. It has also been reported that no FIR has been registered in the matter so far. This is a very serious matter and needs to be dealt with very strictly.

The Commission directed to submit a Copy of FIR registered in the matter, Details of the accused identified and arrested in the matter, Steps taken to identify and arrest the accused; in case of non-arrest, and detailed action taken report in the matter to the concern authority latest by July 25 in view of the gravity of the matter.
