The number of people infected by the Novel Coronavirus in the state of Manipur has reached 172 today with 15 more detected late yesterday night. So far 52 people have been recovered leaving the number of active positive cases to 120.
According to a released from the state health department the 15 new active cases were detected last night, at both VRDLs of RIMS and JNIMS.
In neighbouring Assam, as many as 92 new COVID-19 positive cases have been reported in the last 24 hours, said Assam minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. Total cases in the state now stand at 2,565. However, 27 more patients were also discharged, taking the total number of those discharged to 615 and the number of active cases stands at 1,943.
There are 1,20,406 active COVID cases across the country and all are under active medical supervision.
During the last 24 hours, a total of 5,220 COVID-19 patients have been cured in the country. So far, a total of 1,19,293 patients have been cured taking the recovery rate to 48.37 per cent.
Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) has further ramped up the testing capacity for detecting the novel Coronavirus. A total of 759 testing facilities exist in the country as on date with 531 government and 228 private labs.
On the other hand the worldwide death toll from COVID-19 has surpassed 4,00,000, according to a tally by Johns Hopkins University that health experts say is still an undercount because many who died were not tested for the virus. Worldwide, at least 6.9 million people have been infected by the virus, according to Johns Hopkins. The US has seen nearly 110,000 confirmed virus-related deaths and Europe has recorded over 175,000 since the virus emerged in China late last year.
