The Kuki Inpi Manipur (KIM) on Sunday accorded its thankfulness and immense appreciation over the Government’s Cabinet decision to cancel the Gazette Notification for introduction of Village Development Committee and the proposed New Land Use Policy in the interest of the Kuki Peoples in particular and the tribals in general.Speaking to media persons in a press conference held at Kuki Inn Imphal KIM general secretary, Khaimang Chongloi stated that KIM was apprehensively opposing the Gazette notification for the introduction of Village Development Committee (VDC) and the proposed New Land Use Policy (NLUP) tooth and nail as the policies were totally opposite to the existing traditional land uses and practices of the Kukis and which would also completely affects the age old traditional village administration of the Kuki which handed down through generations from time immemorial.Regarding this issue KIM holds a series of meeting including consultations which was participated by a large numbers of Kuki Chiefs, Public leaders and Civil Society Organization leaders and resolute to oppose the policy in toto said KIM general secretary.Khaimang Chongloi also clarified that Kukis were not against the govt. but only against the policies since apprehensiveness the policy so-called VDC would certainly abolish the Kuki traditional Chieftainship and its village administration system.Moreover, KIM is very much concerned about the mis-appropriation of the development schemes in the hills and the Kuki dominated area in particular which is very unfortunate but assured that they will extend maximum co-operation to the govt. for better development in future added Khaimang Chongloi.The Kuki Inpi Manipur on behalf of the Kuki peoples once again expresses its sincere gratitude and thankfulness to the O. Ibobi led govt. for immediate cancellation of VDC and NLUP by according due respect to the sentiments and interest of the Kukis and traditional set up of Custom and Cultures of the Kukis and the tribals as a whole.At the same time the KIM also thanks all the Mnisters, MP, MLAs ADC members from Kuki communities for extending their unflinching support on the issue added KIM general secy.
