National Voluntary Blood Donation Day, 2017 Observed

Imphal, Oct. 1: National Voluntary Blood Donation Day, 2017 is being observed today at G.P. Women’s College Hall, Imphal. Attending the function as Chief Guest, Health and Family Welfare Minister L. Jayantakumar Singh said that everyone needs blood to live. Blood is life. Donating blood is like giving life to a person, he added.
Minister observed that one will come to realize about the importance and essentiality of blood only when incident of blood requirement comes in the family. He also appealed the people to donate blood.
Regarding the blood storage facilities in the state, Jayantakumar assured that the existing capacity of Blood Banks will be made increased. The Government will look into the requirements to improve and achieve the target of required blood unit of the State, he added.
He also distributed certificates and mementos to the Voluntary organizations that organize at least three Blood Donation Camps from April to September, 2017. Minister also visited the Blood Donation Camp which was being organised in the G.P. Women’s College hall.
Attending the function S. Subhashchandra Singh, Parliamentary Secretary, Health and Family Welfare mentioned about his concern to introduce a policy to motivate the blood donors of the state so that many more donors will come forward.
He also handed over a cash reward of Rs. 5000 to a donor who has donated blood 54 times. He also announced payment of Rs. 1000 per month from his salary till his office last as incentive for a blind donor who has donated blood 56 times.
Dr. K. Rajo Singh, State Mission Director and Director, Health Smt. Valentina Arambam, Project Director, Manipur State AIDS Control Society and Dr B. Lalhari Sharma as President and Guests of Honour respectively.
Health Services Staffs, students from different nursing Institutes, Differently abled person, representatives of voluntary organizations were also present at the function.
A rally to mark the observance was also organised in which Shri S. Subhashchandra Singh and other officials from Health Department took part. The program was followed by entertainment programmes.
