Vehicular movement along the two national highways of the state has been seriously affected as the United Naga Council (UNC) begins their indefinite blockade since 6 am today. Because of the bandh interstate bus service came to a complete halt and tuckers and other private passenger vehicles stay off the road even as state government has taken up adequate security measures. Reports reaching here said that the presence of para military and Assam Rifles troops in around the site where railway track construction has been going are off no use as the construction company authority has stopped the work due to apprehension of unwanted consequences because of the bandh.In Senapati district headquarter, almost all shops and business establishment remain shuts since early morning. According to report Assam Rifles and state force were deployed at some of the places between Mao to Senapati district.The indefinite bandh along the National High Ways and the banned on the construction of National Poject in Naga Inhabited area has been called by the United Naga Council in the aftermath of the Killing of two civilian protestors at Ukhrul town on August 30. The UNC has been demanding immediate intervention of the Central Government to the arising situation in Ukhrul town and also an alternative administrative arrangement for Naga Inhabited area.The UNC bandh came into force amidst Union Home Ministry appeals to call it off.Mention may be made that the Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh had assured the Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh, Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam and Governor VK Duggal to extend all possible assistant to the state government in tackling the issue.
