UNC stage protest Rally; 2 died, several injured in police firing at Ukhrul district

Mass protest in Ukhrul district head quarter reaches catastrophe today after 2 persons were killed in police firing at around noon today. Several other protestors were also seriously injured in the police action.Report reaching here said that member of the various civil society organisation today staged sit-in-protest demonstration at five different places of Ukhrul district including Gandhi Chowk, Viewland Church, Wino Bazar  and two other places. The protest demonstration was staged as a part of the mass rally organised by the United Nage Council (UNC) in protest against the militarisation of Naga areas particularly in Ukhrul district by Manipur State forces and other demands including speedy solution of Indo-Naga problem, alternative arrangement for the Naga inhabited area and against the unabated aggressive policies of the government of Manipur to encroach upon the Naga areas through Laws, Acts & Notifications to subvert the protective provisions of the MLR & LR Act, 1960.The UNC planned a mass rally but as 144 of the CrPC has clamped in Ukhrul town the members of the civil society organisation staged the protest demonstration.At around noon people staging the sit-in-protest demonstration started to proceed toward Ukhrul DC office to submit memorandum to the Prime Minister of India through the DC. However, Police commando team tried to stop them at Viewland and Ukhrul Mini Secretariat area. There was a short confrontation between the police tem and the protestor until the police started firing to disperse them.Our Ukhrul correspondent reported that the police team went hostile and started firing toward the protestors. In the firing two civilian protestors were killed and several other people sustain serious injury. Among the two killed in the police firing one has been identified as Ramkhasing Eashi of Tuenem Village. And the other has been identified as Ngachoni M.  Our correspondent further added that the police team also dismantle all the vehicles found parking in the roadside near the Ukhrul Mini Secretariat. A bolero Jeep which was travelling amidst the agitation was also reported to have been dismantled by the police team. Two of the passengers travelling inside the vehicles were reported to have been injured in the police action.Meanwhile mass rally in support of the UNC demands were reported to have been staged at Senapati District head quarter and Chandel District head quarter too. However, the rally was reported peaceful with no untoward incident.Later memorandums were submitted to the Pm through the district DCs.
