MLA Joykishan resigns from BJP; People first, party second, so I resigned – Joykishan

Imphal, Dec 21: BJP MLA Khumukcham Joykishan today tenders resignation from the party’s primary/active membership. Joykishan is one among the two sitting BJP MLA in the 10th Manipur Legislative Assembly which got elected from Thangmeiband Assembly constituency in the bye election. With his resignation, BJP now have only one sitting MLA, Thongam Bishwajit of Thongju Assembly constituency.
Speaking to reporters at his Thangmeiband residence, MLA Kh. Joykishan said that he tenders the resignation as the BJP leadership, which is in government at the centre fails to address the suffering of the people due to the prolonged economic blockade.
“I joined BJP as its ideology is Nation first and Party second, when the very party failed to redress the suffering of the people I don’t find any meaning on remaining with the party”, said Joykishan.
He said that he being a member of the party which is in government at the centres could not do anything to the present imbroglio in the state as the leaders at the centre do not take up any action to contain the crisis.
“I have submitted memorandums to the Prime Minister and Union Home Minster but the central government remains silent to the present issue pouring more anger to the people of the state. As the BJP central leadership failed to listen to the voice of the people, I have no other choice but to resign from the party”, Joykishan said.
MLA Kh. Joykishan said that the decision to resign from the primary and active membership of the BJP was taken after thorough deliberation with the people of his constituency. He said following the uncertainty of the BJP Manipur Pradesh due to internal crisis of the party, he had tendered resignation from all post assigned to him to the state BJP President Ksh. Bhabananda on December 15. As no reply has been intimated Joykishan considered his resignation accepted. He further added that his resignation is a wake-up call to the BJP and appealed the party to remain united and do some good for the people of the state.
When asked about his political strategy, Joykishan said that he will decide on which party to join after consultation with his people.
Earlier Thangmeiband United Club (TUC) had urged the MLA to unfold the content of the framework work agreement signed between the Government of India and NSCN –IM and stated that if failed the TUC will boycott BJP from December 24. The TUC also urged Joykishan to resign from the BJP if the condition provided are not fulfilled by the BJP.

Joykishan joins Congress

Imphal, Dec 21: After resigning from the BJP, MLA Khumukcham Joykishan officially joined the Congress party today evening. The decision to join the congress party was taken after the  Thangmeiband United Club (TUC) and other supporters urged him to join the party today afternoon. Chief Minister Okram Ibobi, Deputy CM Gaikhangam, President of the MPCC TN Haokip and other member of the Congress party today organised a grant reception function of MLA Joykishan at Congress Bhavan today
