MPP, AMSU, MSP and others commemorated Language Day

The 23rd Manipuri Language Day was observed at different places here in Imphal today to commemorate the inclusion of the Manipuri Language in the 8th Schedule of the Indian Constitution. Patriotic Writers Forum Manipur (PWFM) commemorated the occasion at the Manipur Press Club with Prof. Huirem Bihari, Convenor, Sahitya Academy Manipuri Advisory Board, Raghu Leishangthem, Vice President, PRFM, as Chief Guest and President respectively, while The All Manipur Students Union (AMSU) also celebrated Language day at their DM College office with Leihaothabam Sharatchandra, former president of the organization as Chief Guest, Thiyam Naresh Singh, President, AMSU, S Sanatombi, HOD Manipuri Department, MU and Sagolsem Saratchandra, Former President, AMSU as President and Guests of Honour respectively of the function. In yet another commemoration ceremony at the MPP office, N Sovakiran Singh, President, MPP, in his presidential speech extolled the extraordinary efforts and sacrifices made by various individuals and organizations in making the dream of including Manipuri in the 8th Schedule of the Indian Constitution a reality. He further added that this precious gift to the people of the state should be promoted and popularized. Venerable Panthoupa, who undertook a prominent role in the struggle for the inclusion of Manipuri Language and who even spearheaded various fasts and agitations at the national capital was the resource person at the ceremony. Dr. L. Chandramani, Chief Advisor, OJugindro Singh, N Ojit Singh and M Amutombi Singh, Vice Presidents also attended the commemoration function.
