Manipur pays homage to the patriots on Patriotic Day

Many including the state government, political parties and different organizations of Manipur today paid homage to the patriots of Manipur including Bir Tikendrajit and Thangal General, who had sacrificed their lives for the cause of Manipur on 13th August, 1891.The official state function was observed at the Bir Tikendrajit Park at 3.30 pm in the afternoon. In morning Manipur Chief Minister O.Ibobi paid floral tribute to Bir Tikendrajit at Hicham Yaicham Pat. It was followed by paying tribute to Thangal General at the statue of Thangal General at Palace Compound. Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam, Speaker, Cabinet Ministers and MLAs of Manipur also took part in paying tribute to the patriots at Hicham Yaicham Pat and Thangal General’s statue.A contingent of Manipur Rifles played last post and gave gun salute to the departed souls of the two patriots.The day observed at Congress Bhavan as well. Chief Minister O Ibobi, Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam and other Cabinet Ministers paid floral tribute to the patriots to mark the observance.Speaking to media persons, on the sideline of the observance Manipur Chief Minister O Ibobi said that a meeting of all political parties was held to take a collective decision over the issue of ILP System in Manipur as state cabinet is not the authority to implement the very act. He further said that Manipur Government also wants to implement the act in Manipur. So, government along the all parties committee will consult with legal experts, intellectuals and retired judges to frame any legislation that can check the entry of non-locals in Manipur.Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam said that the day is special day for those who had sacrificed their lives for the cause of their motherland. He also appealed to all the community of the state to stand together to bring welfare in the state.Patriots’ Day was also observed at various parts of Manipur. Locals of Haobam Marak Keisham Leikai observed Patriots’ Day at Haobam Marak Keisham Leikai Community Hall by paying floral tribute to the photos of Bir Tikendrajit, Thangal General and Paona Brajabashi. A sit-in-protest in demand of implementation of Inner Line Permit System in Manipur was also staged as a part of the observance.Youth Wing of Bharatia Janata Party also observed the day by organizing a painting competition. Brahmapur Social Club organized a football tournament as a mark to remember the Patriots.
