Karang Island Development Organisation (KIDO) today said that there is no use of taking up a project of Rupees 500 crore to clear phumdi from Loktak Lake as no change has been witnessed even after the project is nearing to its end.In a press meet held today at Manipur Press Club, Gitajen, former secretary of Karang Island Development Organisation said that a company called K Pro has taken up the first phase of clearing phumdi from Loktak Lake however there is no change in the Lake even though the government has claimed that Rupees 300 crores have been used in clearing Phumdis. He further said that the state government has given the tender to HVS Patsoi to take up the remaining work of Rupees 200 crore. He further said that instead of taking up such useless projects in Loktak Lake, the state government should take up projects to construct routes by depositing the phumdis to connect Karang Island with Thanga and other neighbouring villages. He also drew the attention of the government to take up welfare plans for the villagers living in Karang Island.
