All Manipur College Teachers’ Association (AMCTA) strongly condemns the notification regarding the amended Academic Performance Indicator (API) notified by Govt. of India in its Gazette dated 10th May 2016 and put in public domain on May 17. A press release today signed by M. Lokendro Singh, President, AMCTA & Zonal Secretary, All India Federation of University & College Teachers’ Organisation- AIFUCTO (North East Zone) condemns the quantum jump in work load of all the teachers in universities and colleges. The Government of India has done just opposite of what was required to be done. The release further states that while the teachers across the country are eagerly waiting for VII Pay Review Committee for University and College teachers, the Govt. of India has done a big injustice to the teachers working in colleges & universities across the country because due to the amended notification of API, there is quantum jump in work load of all the teachers in universities & colleges and Workload at the level of Astt. Professor increases more than 50%. Delay in constitution of VII Pay Review Committee is already agitating teaching community in higher education sector and the Govt. is mum on this till today. Amended gazette of API again agitated the teachers of higher education sector across the country.
Instead of providing relief to teachers working in small towns and remote areas, it has reduced the research requirements of university teachers and, has increased the research workload for college teachers. This is a mindless and shocking exercise of the govt Similarly there are other changes which are unpragmatic will create huge problems in future, the release said, adding that AIFUCTO  demands that the Govt of India must withdraw this useless gazette notification immediately in the larger interest of the teachers & higher education of the country  and should hold discussion with the representatives of the teachers federations for fresh notification. If it is not done, AIFUCTO will decide future course of action in its proposed NEC meeting on 25th & 26th June’2016 in Dehradun (Uttrakhand), the release concluded.
