CM writes to Home Minister seeking more central forces to tackle NSCN (IM)

Imphal July 31: Manipur Chief Minister Okram Ibobi wrote a letter to the Union Home Minister, Rajnath Singh, asking to make an arrangement to provide 15 companies of CAPF such as CRPF, BSF when requested by the State Government to tackle the unlawful activities committed by NSCN (IM) in the state.  Sources said that, Chief Minister, O. Ibobi, in his letter drew the attention of the Union Home Minister by informing him about the emerging situation caused by the unlawful activities of NSCN (IM).  He also mentioned that the Ceasefire Agreement between Government of India and NSCN (IM) is in operation since 1997 and the State of Manipur is not a part of this Agreement. The letter also said that NSCN (IM) cadres based in Manipur have indulged in many crimes including extortion, abduction and assassination of many individuals, IED blasts etc. Since the agreement of the ceasefire between Government of India and NSCN (IM), 424 FIRs have been registered against NSCN (IM). O. Ibobi’s letter further mentioned about the present situation at Ukhrul after the arrest of eight cadres of NSCN (IM) following the killing of Ngalangzar, member of Ukhrul Autonomous District Council on 12/7/2014 at Finch Corner. Protesting against the action of the state force, some Naga organizations are threatening to impose economic blockade on two national highways which are the economic lifeline of the state. CM drew the attention of Home Minister about the need of further deployment of 15 companies of CAPF for handling of violent indefinite blockade of the National Highways in case such situation arises.
