Family members of labourers stage protest

Imphal, July 27: Family members of the CAF and PD labourers who were arrested by police for staging fast unto death protest by locking themselves with iron chain demanding labour charge hike, today staged a sit in protest at Sangaiprou. Around 30 labourers who had staged protest were arrested by police since July 24. The first team was picked up from the Bir Tikendrajit Fly over bridge, the second was picked up from Tiddim road and the third team was picked up from Kanglapat area in the last three day.

The family members of the labourers staged the sit-in-protest at Sangaiprou area opposite to St. Joseph School. Cooking materials were placed in front of them and various slogans demanding for the release of the detained labourers were displayed. Children of the labourers who were staging the protest demonstration said they since their fathers were arrested by the police team they had stopped cooking. They urged to listen to the demand of their parents and released them immediately without any condition.

Speaking to media persons a labourer said that the Deputy Commissioner of Labour department, government of Manipur had called the authority of the FCS and the members of the labourers to sort out the matter, however, the labourer representatives had to return back as no representatives of the FCS department had come.
