Imphal, Oct 17: Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh today inaugurated a sub-office of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) at Thangmeiband Lilasing Khongangkhong near Manipur Legislative Assembly office. The office is temporarily open at the office bungalow of the Chairman of the Hill Area Committee Manipur until the construction of the permanent building is completed at Mantripukhri where the state government has allotted 5 acres of land.
Speaking on the occasion, Okram Ibobi Singh said that the opening of the sub office of the RBI will improve the banking system of the state as well as the activities of the non-banking financial corporation can also be monitor from time to time. He said the state government has been pursuing the Union government for opening of a RBI office in the state since the last four year and it is a happy moment for all of us in the state.
Deputy Governor of the RBI, HR Khan who also attended the inaugural function of the sub office said that the newly opened sub -office will give more priority to provide financial literacy and financial inclusion to the people of the state. He also assured to check the requirement of the existing bank in the state and also said that the office will look forward to open more bank other area to provide banking beneficiary to the people in farming sector, handloom sector among others.
The Chief Minister also launched a web page of the RBI on today’s occasion. Chief Secretary of Manipur O Nabakishore, , Executive Director of RBI Dr. Deepali Pant Joshi, Regional Director of RBI North Eastern Region SS Barik among others attended.
