Uripok Kanchup Road Auto Rickshaw Owners and Drivers Co-operativ Society Ltd. Strongly opposed the construction of club building at Uripok Chakrikom parking area.
In a press meet held today at Manipur Press Club, local club representatives of Uripok area supported the Auto Rickshaw owner objection to the construction of club building for Imphal Sporting Club as they had not been consulted before the construction of the club.
Uripok Chakrikom area has been provided as parking space for auto rickshaw by an order of D.C Imphal West in 1994. The parking space was suddenly occupied by Imphal Sporting Club and started constructing their club building during ILP movement without giving any information to the local people.
Speaking to the media persons, A Mokundro Singh, Chairperson, Uripok United Club, Ahongsangbam Pholem, Spokeperson, Uripok People Society and Heikham Basanta, representative of United Friends Library Club, Lamboi Khongnangkhong said that some vested interested persons had started occupying the land when the ILP agitation had freezes normal life in Imphal area by series of agitations and bandh. The people also started constructing the club building at the time to the allotted space for auto parking.
