Imphal, July 11: Information Center for Hill Area Manipur (ICHAM) today said that more territory of the state has been encroached by the Myanmar authority along the Indo –Myanmar border and urged the government to institute high level committee to apprise the central government regarding the present border dispute. The organization also drew the attention of the legislators to discuss the issue of the border dispute along the Indo Myanmar border at Moreh site during the assembly session which begins from today.Addressing to media persons at Manipur Press Club today morning, president of the ICHAM, Nongthonbam Rajendro (Boy) said that peoples’ movement against the encroacher to Manipur’s boundary along the Indo-Myanmar border by Myanmar’s authority had compelled to halt the border fencing work along the Indo-Myanmar border in June, 2013. After various civil society organizations had brought up the issue to the notice of the government, the matter was somewhat taken seriously in view of the then Lok Sabha Election by the Okram Ibobi Singh led government. A team of all Political Party delegations led by Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam had taken stock of the ground realities. However, after the lok Sabha election the matter has been sideline by state government, Rajendro alleged.General Secretary of ICHAM Ngachomi Ranshang who also attended the press conference said that after huge portion of the state’s territory has been found encroached by Myanmar’s army at Haolenphai area more territory of the state has been found to have been encroached by the Myanmar’s Army. He said a team of ICHAM had conducted a five day survey along the Indo Myanmar border. During the survey about 15 Kilometre length and 7 Km wide from Satong to Z. chora has been found encroached by Myanmar’s army. Z. Chora is about 70 Km from Moreh town .
