Imphal, July 09: The Indira Gandhi National tribal University Students’ Union, Regional Campus Manipur (IGNTUSU-RCM) today said that the union will continue their agitation until its demands are fulfilled. In a press conference held today at Manipur Press club, Lelen Vaiphei, Information Secretary IGNTUSU-RCM disclosed that the union have decided to continue boycotting classes of the University until and unless the Vice Chancellor comes personally and meets all the demand made by the students’ union, adding that the letter received from VC as a response to the demand is baseless. Speaking to the media Lelen further said that on June 10 an MOU was signed between the IGNTUSU-RCM students with the varsity Authority represented by Professor Tripathy, Dean of Social Sciences at Makhan village which includes immediate approval/inclusion of external study tour for 4th Semester students, immediate correction and issue of educational certificates for all the passed out students, transparency on NEC project and administrative action against erring officials, lack of students amenities in the RCM have to be made available before the new academic session and non completion of the original site at Makhan village should be taken seriously and handing over should be done on or before the next academic session, and if the authority of the University fails to fulfil the demand on or before June 20 the students are free to take their own decision. As a failure on the part of the authority, the students’ union vandalised electronic equipments and other official properties at the Administration block of the University and also from inside the Director’s room on June 21. Lelen further said that the VC has sent a letter to the students on July 03 which mentioned that the IGNTU has not committed any negligence in its duty in responding to the demands and grievances of the students in the best possible manner. He questioned that if the authority of IGNTU has not committed any negligence in its duty then why the students who had cleared their Masters degree in 2012 are yet to receive their mark sheets. If the Vice Chancellor does not come immediately and fulfil their demands in person, the Students Union will take further intensive agitation with support of all tribal students’ apex bodies.
