Imphal June 26: In what could be termed as one of the biggest ever cheats to the people of the state, sub standard conductors are found used in the up-gradation work of 33 KV Transmission Line between 33/11 KV Sub-Station, Nilkuthi and 33/11 KV Sub-Station, Leimakhong. Sources said that the up-gradation work of 33 KV Transmission Line between 33/11 KV Sub-Station, Nilakuthi and 33/11 Sub-Station,

Leimakhong had been taken up by a firm called Indo Power Company Ltd based in Kolkata under the supervision of the office of the Executive Engineer, Transmission Construction Division No. II, Electricity Department, Govt. of Manipur during the year 2010-2-11.  The source also said that the Commissioner (power) has the knowledge of using of ACSR (Weasel) conductors which is meant for the 11 KV transmission line instead of ACSR (Raccoon) which is recommended in the work order. ACRS (Raccoon) conductor is specified conductor for 33 KV lines. The source further said that out of the total circuit length of 15 km between Nilakuthi and Leimakhong, an approximate circuit length of 5 km has been found using ACSR (Rabbit) which is also meant for 11 KV transmission line.  The source also hinted that there may be possibility of swindling a huge amount of money as the rate of ACSR (Raccoon) is double the rate of the sub standard conductors. Approximate cost of one km of ACSR (Raccoon) is estimated to be Rs.1,03,000 whereas the cost of one km of ACSR (Rabbit) is 51,000.
