Fitting tribute paid to June 18 Martyrs

Manipur observed the 14th Great June Uprising Unity day at Kekrupat, Imphal jointly organised by AMUCO and UCM. People from all the walks of life came to pay homage to the departed souls who sacrificed their lives while safeguarding the integrity of the state on June 18, 2001 protesting against the June 14 Bangkok Declaration where a dubious and contentious clause ‘without territorial limits’ were added to the agreement signed between NSCN (IM) and Government of India ceasefire agreement which provoked the people of the state to openly revolt against it. Various government buildings including the state assembly, official residencies of the MLAs, Ministers and political party offices were burnt down during the agitation. Various persons from different communities paid homage to the departed souls at the Kekrupat memorial complex.
AMUCO and UCM has been observing June 18 as the Great June Uprising Unity day remembering the heartfelt incident of June 18, 2001 which claimed 18 souls while trying to safeguard the integrity of the state and that people from all the communities co habiting in the state should strive to defend any threat to the territorial integrity of Manipur as one.
Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam, Commerce and Industries Minister Govindas Konthoujam, MLA Ng Bijoy among others joint the people of the state in paying floral tribute to the martyrs of the state.
