Manipur violence: Chairperson of Probe Committee arrives

Imphal, June 9:

Chairperson of the probe committee instituted by the Ministry of Home Affairs, Govt. of India, to find the cause of the present violence in the state has arrived in Imphal today morning.
Former Guwahati High Court Chief Justice Ajai Lamba, the chairperson of the 3 members Judicial Inquiry Commission landed at Bir Tikendrajit international airport today morning.
The probe committee was instituted by the MHA on June 4, 3 days after the When Union Home Minister Amit Shah announced during his visit in Imphal.
The other two members of the Commission of Judicial Inquiry comprises of retired Indian Administrative Services officer Himanshu Shekhar Das, and retired Indian Police Service officer Aloka Prabhakar.
The Judicial Inquiry Commission will also probe “complaints or allegations that may be made before the Commission by any individual or association, in such form and accompanied by such affidavits, as may be specified by the Commission,” and relatable instances as may be brought to its notice by the Government of Manipur. The Commission shall submit its report to the Central Government as soon as possible but not later than six months from the date of its first sitting. The headquarters of the Commission shall be at Imphal.
Former Chief Justice of Guwahati High Court (Retd), Justice Ajai Lamba, the chairman of the Judicial Commission of Inquiry was accorded a warm welcome by a team led by Chief Secretary Vineet Joshi at Imphal Airport.
