Imphal, Feb 19:

Even as the government of India is silent on the alleged border dispute along the Indo-Myanmar border in Manipur side, the United Committee Manipur (UCM) and many villagers settling close to the border area said that India’s territory in Manipur portion had been occupied by Myanmar authority.
A team of UCM along with villagers of T Asang Khullen in Kamjong district while visiting the border site found the original border pillar replaced by a new border pillar 7 kilometers inside the Indian territory.
“The Border Pillar No. 92 erected in the Indo-Myanmar border in Kamjong district is not at the original borderline. But the pillar has been erected 7 km inside India’s territory”, the Village chief of Asang Khullen K Hungyo told the media team. He said that villagers have no idea who has erected the border pillar 7 km inside India’s territory.
He said that due to the confusion, villagers fear continuing their cultivation.
Mention may be made that UCM along with villagers settling in the Indo-Myanmar border has been investigating the Indo-Myanmar border for the past couple of months. In most of the area, many border pillars were found erected inside India’s territory in Manipur side. The matter has been put up to the parliament some years back however, the then Ministry of External Affairs had stated that there was no border dispute along the Indo-Myanmar border.
Earlier a team from the Survey of India had visited Indo Myanmar border but return without even reaching the border pillars which the people of the state claimed to have been erected inside India’s territory.
As of now the voice of the Indian people settling in the Indo-Myanmar border area have not been listened to by the government of India for reasons best known to the government.
