With a view to commemorate 75 years of Independence as part of “Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav”, the Army Public School, Mumbai conducted a Heritage Walk from Colaba Military station to the iconic Gateway of India located in South Mumbai, on February 17, Friday.
The Heritage Walk began from the Army Public School (APS) at Colaba with 120 students accompanied by their teachers and Principal Lakshmi Madhuri Chatti. During the walk, the students displayed placards advocating messages to protect our heritage, follow green practices for protection of environment and various other social causes to create awareness amongst the citizens.
On completion of the heritage walk at Gateway of India, a vibrant cultural programme showcasing our cultural heritage was put up by the students. The program began with the release of tri-colour balloons by Lieutenant Colonel Sandeep Legha and the Principal of APS. The program culminated with singing of the National Anthem.
The Heritage walk was indeed an enthralling experience for the students. It highlighted the important historic role and character of the city to the students and also generated interest and involvement of the local community in the urban conservation activity, an official statement read.
Army Public School, Mumbai is a public school, is run under Indian Army supervision and is part of the Army Public School network. The school also has a student council, which is elected every year through a three tier process of elections and is responsible for maintaining discipline in the school.
The APS is a system of private schools established for imparting education to the children of the Indian Armed forces personnel. With 137 schools throughout the country, it is one of the largest chains of schools in India. It is controlled by the Army Welfare Education Society (AWES), which was established in 1983, also has 249 Army pre-primary schools across India, and also several institutions of higher education. The APS follow NCERT curriculum and are affiliated to CBSE, New Delhi.
