As part of the Sangai Festival celebration, the Manipur State Indigenous Wrestling Championship 2022 begins today Senapati Mini Stadium. It was organised by Senapati District Wrestling Association Manipur (SDWAM) and hosted by Makhrelui Village.
The programme began with a blessing from K.N. Namba, Chief of Maram Khullen and unfurling the flags from the Chief Guest.
Speaking on the chief guest speech, L Susindro Meitei, Minister PHED & CAF & PD, Manipur stated that Sangai festival which was celebrated in the Imphal area has now became a state wide celebration with the collaboration of various events like today’s State Indigenous wrestling and others. Looking toward the tourism promotion and smooth running of the governance in the State he appealed the civil society’s organisation to work together hand in hand government. He also wished all the participants of wrestling to play with full discipline.
In the functional president speech, Thangjam Arun Kumar, MLA 15- Wangkhei A/C also President Mukna Association said that the indigenous games of wrestling is very popular in the State since time immemorial both in the hill and valley areas. He also said that indigenous wrestling is helpful for building physique of an individual participating like Judo and international wrestling though some differences of techniques. In the coming days, he looked for bigger participants and more organised in the State level.
It may be mentioned that 60 persons will be participated in the events out of which 2 categories of above and below 65Kg will be played till 26th of this month.
The programme is attended by various Civil Society Organisations, village chairmen and secretaries, former wrestling champions from District were among the others.
