Imphal, Nov 3:

Transport Minister Khashim Vashum has appealed to the All Manipur Tribals Development Grievances Forum (AMTDGF) to withdraw the blockade called on both National Highways of the state from midnight of November 3. In a press conference held today at his office complex, Khashim Vashum also warned of legal action if the AMTDGF fails to call off the bandh.
In connection with the demand for the MGNREGS funds, the Minister said that the government is making all efforts to release the pending MNREGS funds. He said that during June month a sum of Rs. 100 crore has been released, and another sum of Rs. 140 crores has been in the process for release, and the remaining pending fund will be released before the Financial year. The press conference was held after the Minister convened a meeting with all the concerned departments, including the Home Department.
Khashim Vashum further said that since the coming of the BJP led government in the state, the culture of bandh and blockade has vanished from the state as the law and order condition has improved a lot. He said that the government is making all its effort to fulfill the demand but for that matter, it does not justify calling blockade and harassing the entire people of the state.
On the other hand, the Minister said that it is unfortunate to hear such blockade call by an organization at a time when the state government of gearing up for the state’s largest tourism festival – “he Sangai Festival”. He appealed to those calling the blockade to revoke their stand in view of the upcoming Sangai Festival as it might embarrassed the expecting foreign and other domestic visitors in the state.
The Minister, however, said that doors are open for dialogue by the government if there are any grievances. Differences can be settled by dialogue and not by creating inconveniences for the people. He also said that if the appeal is not heard by those calling blockade, then the government will provide adequate security to ensure that there is no hindrance to the movement of vehicles on the two National High ways.
