The state of Government School in the Jiribam District has become so disheartening that teachers and pupils have to sit on the floor mats despite the Manipur government has taken the initiative of School Fagathansi Mission.
The scene comes out from Jirighat High school which is one of the government high schools in Jiribam District. The school has no desks and benches for the students, so the pupils are bound to sit on the plastic mat for attending the classes along with the teacher, which reminds us of the ancient types of Gurukul education system in this modern age.
The piteous condition of the school came to light when the volunteers of the Democratic Students Alliance of Manipur (DESAM) went to inspect the school.
Speaking at the press meet, the president of DESAM, Jiribam District Council L. Bilaks Meetei said the sight of students sitting on the mat for attending classes is very dissatisfying. The headmaster of the school also informed the condition of the school to the Zonal Education Officer (ZEO), Jiribam but none have been provided till today.
He also said DESAM have been demanding the government provide proper infrastructure to all the school. However, the Government despite launching its School Fagathansi mission has failed to fulfill its promises.
He also appealed to the government and concerned authorities to fulfill the needful infrastructure of schools without waiting for the student organisation to expose it.
The press meet was also attended by Organization Secretary, DESAM Th. Santosh Singh and Executive Member H. Shivraj Singh.
