Imphal, May 13:

The Monthly Pension to all the Inmates of the Langol Old Age Home, Langol, Imphal West District, Manipur has been distributed under the exclusive sponsorship of Thounaojam Romen Singh, the Managing Trustee of Thounaojam Chaoba Memorial Charitable Trust, Singjamei today. This is the first of its kind of initiating the Pension Scheme to the Old Age Homes located in the State of Manipur which do not get any financial benefits from the Government.

Distributing the Pensions to all the Inmates of the Old Age Home, Romen Singh said that he will initiate more Pension Schemes with other Old Age Homes which do not get any benefits from the Government. He said that the State Government recently initiated the Scheme – Chief Minister gi Sotharabasingi Tengbang (CMST) but the Langol Old Age Home does not get the benefit as of now thus he initiates the Scheme only for helping the Inmates and the Home as well. The Pension has been given to the Inmates only from his pocket money earned by him and not taking any contribution from any other else, Romen Singh contended.

Romen Singh said that the State Government should take initiative for the welfare of the Inmates of such Homes located in different parts of the State. If not, what the consequences will be for the Inmates. It is quite a questionable. Helping them for their livelihood is a great virtue, he asserted.

In further course of his speech, Romen Singh said that such the Old Aged took responsibility in making their wards and youngsters becoming today’s responsible citizens. Neglecting them by the sons, daughters and relatives is very pathetic.  Such wild act should not be done any more as it will affect the relationship among parents, sons, daughters and relatives as well. The youngsters and offsprings should learn a lot of things from such Aged Persons so that they could be enlightened in their course of lives and actions instead of neglecting them. They took sole responsibility in nurturing their wards and the Society in the right paths.

Romen Singh said that the maintenance and the care of such elderly persons is a must and the default sons and daughters should be punished in case of their dereliction of their duty towards parents. If there is no Old Age Homes in the State, where would be the dwelling place for them, he wondered.

He further said that the  Inmates of the Langol Old Age Home cannot get any benefit of the Health Scheme – Chief Minister gi Hakselgi Tengbang (CMHT)  initiated by the State Government so as to give free treatment to the persons having Below Poverty Line. When asked to give them the benefit, they cannot get it because they cannot furnish the documents. How they can furnish the required documents,  Romen Singh asked. He requested the Government Authority to issue the Cards to such persons not complying the necessary documents as they are reeling under a severe conditions in the Old Age Homes.

Chingakham Sunder Singh, Oinam Mangi Singh and Thounaojam Ibemhal Devi were attended among others in  the function.
