Lamsang Bazar residents stage sit-in against constructions on public ground

Residents of Lamsang Bazar staged a sit-in, protesting against the government’s move to construct different establishments on the area’s lone public ground.
Highlighting that the place requires a recreational park to enhance the area’s overall development, Sorokhaibam Surbala, an executive member of Lamsang Keithel Meira Paibi Lup, said: “If the construction continues, there will be no place left in the Lamsang Keithel area the organization or any individual can organize any sports or cultural events in the future. Moreover, it will jeopardize the well-being of present and future generations.”
Kshetrimayum Binand, the Publicity Secretary of the local club, Progressive Youth Association, said: “Lamsang Bazar already has two community halls. Therefore, there is no requirement for another. Moreover, a market shed was recently inaugurated at the bazaar, so construction of a market shed is not required.”
“Not only will the park provide beautiful green spaces, but it will also improve the well-being of the area by providing a gathering place for youths and elderlies,” Binand added.
The local club had recently canceled the Yaoshang Sports Meet 2022 – an annual event that the organization, protesting against the construction.
