NESO appeals SAPO and AAMYA to lift shut down called

The North East Students’ Organisation (NESO) which comprises the Khasi Students’ Union (KSU), All Assam Students’ Union (AASU), Naga Students’ Federation (NSF), MizoZirlai Pawl (MZP), Twipra Students’ Federation (TSF), All Manipur Students’ Union (AMSU), Garo Students’ Union (GSU) and All Arunachal Pradesh Students’ Union (AAPSU) representing eight major students movement in the seven North-Eastern states have expressed anguish and serious concern over the situation arising at the border along the Nagaland-Manipur boundary. A statement said that the indefinite shut down called by the Southern Angami Peoples Organisation (SAPO) along the National Highway No.2 (Dimapur – Imphal road) which is the lifeline of Manipur and the adjoining areas since 23rd March 2022 on the demand that Manipur Government should withdraw its armed personnel from Kezoltsa Area has deteriorated the situation in the adjoining areas and of Manipur.
“This indefinite shutdown has greatly affected the lives and the livelihood of the innocent people”, NESO said and added that the NESO has always maintained that people to people’s dialogue is to be encouraged so that the people on the ground do not suffer.
NESO appealed to the Southern Angami Peoples Organisation to reconsider and lift the ongoing shutdown at the earliest for the interest of the innocent general public and at the same time, NESO also urged the All Assam Manipuri Youth Association (AAMYA) to suspend the counter shut down for the interest of the general public.
NESO also expressed its serious concern with the suffering of the common people due to the prevailing situation. It also urged the Government of India to take pro-active steps to control the situation from further deterioration and also should intervene by taking the initiative to solve the issue and to bring all the parties involved to the negotiating table so that the issue can be resolved amicably.
