In Manipur No families of Covid Victims dare to challenge complicacy for applying ex-gratia; In Bihar and AP, SC summons the CSs

Various sources with the Imphal Times has informed that many kiths and kin of Covid-19 victims were facing problems in filling form to get ex-gratia or compensation announced by the government of India as a series of procedures have to be followed – like submitting of documents to prove that the cause of death is Covid-19. Rs. 50,000/- each has been announced to the next kin of the Covid-19 victim however, some of them have to run here and there to collect the documents and some who failed to collect the Covid-19 test report and the death certificate mentioning the cause of as death Covid-19 due some reason are not in the position to apply for the compensation. The total Covid-19 casualty as per the government report on January 18 is 2015. Though the state authorities (health department/ IDSP) have reported about the death as caused by Covid-19, the victim’s family are asked to submit all documents (to prove the cause of death due to Covid-19).
The issue has been reported on Imphal Times on January 17 issue. Non dare to challenge the lengthy and complicated nature of filling form for the compensation for reason best known to them.
However, the good news is that the Supreme Court of India today issued summons to the Chief Secretaries of Andhra Pradesh and Bihar and sought their personal presence over the alleged non-payment of compensation to the Kith and kin of those who succumbed to Covid-19.
As per a news agency report, a bench of the Supreme Court headed by Justice M.R. Shah said that the state authorities are not above the law.
“They are to remain present at 2 pm”, the apex court directed.
The court issued the order after hearing a plea file by a lawyer, Gaurav Bansal, relating to the non-payment of ex-gratia of Rs. 4 lakhs to the families of those who succumbed to Covid-19 and post-Covid complicacy.
