Power Minister Thongam Biswajit inaugurates three 33/11 KV Sub-stations

Power Minister Thongam Biswajit Singh today inaugurated three 33/11 kV Sub-stations in Imphal East today and said that the inauguration of the three sub-stations will greatly help in improving quality power supply. The three sub-stations are 33/11 kV Sub-station Top Khongangmakhong (Wakha), 33/11 kV Sub-station Sanjenbam, Imphal East and 33/11 kV Sub-station Porompat, Yaralpat, Imphal East.
Addressing a formal inauguration function at the Porompat 33/11 kV Sub-station campus, Shri Biswajit said that inauguration of the three Sub-stations as part of the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav is a historic moment.
Biswajit said that the present peak electricity demand of Manipur may be just around 230 MW. Today, we have the proper infrastructure to bring in enough power to meet any increase in demand to facilitate industrialization, he said, adding that completion of the Civil Secretariat and Food Park, Yaithibhi Khunou will increase power demand in the State drastically.
Further on complaints regarding power quality, the Minister said that development should happen in a step by step manner, and that we should understand the two companies were in the infancy stage. He said that considering public interests, the cost of per unit electricity has been kept low in the State as compared to the average cost in other North Eastern States.
Today, we are able to provide 24 hour quality power supply in the State, he said, adding that there has been a huge increase in numbers of sub-stations in the State.
Stating that politicians alone cannot bring development and that every individual has a responsibility towards the society, The Minister highlighted Hon’ble Prime Minister’s mantra of Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas, Sabka Prayaas.
Biswajit also assured that power sub-stations at Tamenglong and Gamphazol will also be completed by June 2022. Stating further that the present government believes in reaching out to the last mile to bring development, he recounted some of his visits to the interior parts of the hill districts.
Further explaining the benefits of the UJALA scheme, the Minister further urged the public to use LED bulbs provided to domestic consumers at subsidized rates under the scheme.
He said that the old heated bulbs emit toxic gases into our environment and it is also not so effective. He said LED bulbs will help in conservation of energy and saving money through reduced power bills.
The Minister also expressed that usage of the High Tension Low Sag (HTLS) Conductor in the State will minimize the sagging of wire in the hill areas.
He continued that approximately around 3.9 lakh prepaid meters have been installed and activated in the State as part of the good governance to bring transparency, accountability. There is a target to complete more than 70 percent by March next year.
The Minister also expressed to discuss with the Centre if the names of the locations of the three power sub-stations can be altered or appended with proper locations.
Today’s inaugural function was also attended by Chairman MSPDCL and LDA, MLA Kshetrigao A/C N.Indrajit Singh, Manipur State Power Company Ltd. (MSPCL), MD N. Sarat Singh, Manipur State Power Distribution Company Ltd. (MSPDCL) MD Ng Subhachandra Singh, Powergrid General manager H. Rajen Singh among others.
Power supply to Top Khongangmakhong, Sanjenbam area, Porompat in Imphal East is fed from 33/11 kV Sub-station at Khuman Lampak through long 11 kV line resulting in poor with quality and irregular power supply considerable voltage drop at the consumer’s ends. Now, with the construction of the new 33/11 kV Sub-station at Top Khongangmakhong, power supply to Top Khongangkhong, Wakha, Top Dusra (East), Kshetri Bengoon, Top Naoria, Naharup, Yangbi etc. will be improved with appreciable reduction in the losses and considerable improvement in the voltage profile too.
Now, with the construction of the new 33/11 kV Sub-station at Sanjenbam power supply to Sanjenbam and its nearby adjoining areas like Kanghuchingjil, Takhel, New Salem, Nongmaiphal Sanamahi and Mahadev Temples at Nonmaijing and part of adjoining villages of Saikul sub-division of Kangpokpi district will be improved with appreciable reduction in the losses and considerable improvement in the voltage profile too.
Now, with the construction of the new 33/11 kV Sub-station at Porompat, power supply to Porompat, Yaralpat, Moirang Kampu Sajeb, Top Khewa, Ningthoubung etc. will be improved with appreciable reduction in the losses and considerable improvement in the voltage profile too.
The sub-stations are constructed under the North Eastern System Power System Improvement Project (NERPSIP), which is a Central Sector Scheme for strengthening of the Intra State Transmission and Distribution System in six States of NER (Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Tripura and Nagaland) at an estimated cost of Rs.5111.33 crore. The scheme is being funded by the Government of India and World Bank on a 50:50 basis. The project is being executed by Power Grid Corporation of India Limited in favour of the six NER states.
