Swarnim Vijay Varsh Celebrations

As part of Swarnim Vijay Varsh celebrations and in commemoration of 75 years of Indian Independence (Aazadi ka Amrit Mahotsav), Indian Navy ships are progressively visiting 75 ports to raise awareness on coastal security and engage with local population to encourage them to contribute better to national security and well-being.
INS Tarasa, a Waterjet Fast Attack Craft that operates under Headquarters Maharashtra Naval Area, visited Jaigarh port in Ratnagiri district, located 120 nm from Mumbai. During the visit, the ship’s crew interacted with port authorities and the local populace based at Jaigarh.
The visit of the ship was aimed at enhancing ties and spreading awareness with the local populace on aspects of coastal security and maritime operations. Indian Naval Ship Khanjar was the first Indian Navy ship to call at the heritage coastal port of Gopalpur in Odisha in August this year, as part of this program.
Rear Admiral Mahesh Singh takes over as FODAG
In another development, Rear Admiral Mahesh Singh, Flag Officer Commanding Karnataka Naval Area took over as Flag Officer Offshore Defence Advisory Group(FODAG) and Advisor to the Government of India on Offshore Defence on Tuesday.
A Navigation and Direction Specialist, the Admiral is an alumnus of the prestigious National Defence Academy. He has held several specialist appointments including being the commissioning Navigating Officer of Indian Naval Ship Jyoti and commanding the missile vessel INS Nirghat during Op Vijay.
On completion of his Staff Course at DSSC Wellington, he served as Joint Director at Directorate of Naval Operations prior to taking over command of MCGS Vigilant on deputation to the Government of Mauritius. He also headed the Navigation and Direction School in Kochi and completed the Higher Defence Management Course at CDM Secunderabad.
He went on to command the LPD Jalashwa and attended the prestigious RCDS course in the UK. Prior to his promotion to the Flag rank, he was Principal Director of Personnel at Naval Headquarters. Thereafter, he served as Chief Staff Officer (Operations) at Headquarters, Eastern Naval Command, Visakhapatnam.
