Election-related violence at its height in Heirok Assembly constituency; teenage boy shot dead in clash

Election-related violence has reached its peak in Heirok Assembly constituency, with the latest incident reported killing of a teenage youth by suspected supporters of a candidate contesting the upcoming state assembly election. Report said the teenage boy sustain multiple bullet injuries and happen to be a son of a political worker an intending candidate belonging to the Congress party. He succumbed to injury at Raj Medicity Hospital.
A journalist sustained serious injuries after supporters of an intending candidate thrashed him inside his residence some weeks back, and later another person sustain a serious injury after supporters of another candidate attacked him with a spade. There were reports of gunshots every evening in the Assembly constituency even after the district administration had directed all licensed gun holders to deposit their weapons to the nearest police station. As per report there is no dearth of election-related crimes in the Heirok Assembly constituency since the last couple of months and the latest being an incident at which a teenage youth identified as Ningthoujam Rohit, a student of Thoubal College doing 3rd Semester was killed by masked gunmen at his residence at Heirok Part 2 Mayai Leikai last night. The deceased Rohit is still yet to enroll in the electoral roll, the report said.
On the other hand father of the deceased teenage boy, N. Premchandra too had been attacked by the intruders and sustained serious injury. He is reportedly undergoing treatment. As N. Premchand happened to be a worker of intending candidate of the Congress party, many in Heirok area points figure to the BJP candidate for the killing.
The incident happened at around 8 pm yesterday. Report said that some armed masked men intruded to the residence of N. Premchand and shot at his son while he went out to see if anything happen as he heard sounds of gunshots.
Our reporter has been informed that there are two political party camps in the area – one for the BJP and another for Congress. It was reported that rounds of gunshots were heard from both the offices and the supporters of both the candidates came out on the street firing the gunshot. The deceased teenage while standing at his lone was allegedly fired upon by some unidentified masked men who had intruded in the compound,
Since early morning today, a large number of people came out at the street in protest against the killing pointing figures to the intending BJP candidate who is also the MLA of Heirok Assembly Constituency. Those protestors blocked roads and shouted slogans against the killing and also against the BJP governance. They even shouted slogans urging the BJP MLA to leave Heirok Assembly constituency.
A protestor while speaking to the media said that there is no law in Heirok Assembly Constituency. He blamed the present BJP government for not taking the matter happening in Heirok AC without any seriousness.
