A powerful Improvised Explosive Device (IED) that blasted in the early morning today destroyed a pharmacy at Khurai Lamlong Keithel Tinsid road in Imphal East district. There was no human casualty as no one was present at the moment. However, the impact of the blast also causes severe destruction to shops and houses adjacent to the pharmacy. Police sources said that the blast took place at around 2.45 am.
Earlier, on November 14, a person was caught with a bag containing IED from the gate of Khurai Assembly constituency MLA L Suchindro. On interrogation, by police, the person said that he had picked up the bag containing the IED from in front of Bobby Pharmacy located at Khurai Lamlong Keithel Tinsid road. On the following day an armed rebel group had clarified that the IED was planted as a threat to Bobby Pharmacy as a warning. The armed group called MNRF also stated that the IED which was placed as a warning was picked up by the mentally unsound person. The press statement indicated that the blast that occurred today could have been works of the MNRF group. However, there are no claims made till the filing of this story.
Medicines, and other materials which could have cost over lakhs of rupees were destroyed during the blast. Fire tender who rushed the site along with police team however extinguished the fire from the impact of the blast from causing further damage.
