Armed assailants allegedly fired rounds of gunshots to the residence of Usham Manglem at Kairembikhok Awang Leikai yesterday evening. Manglem is the State Co-ordinator of the Manipur Pradesh Youth Congress Committee and is an intending candidate of the party at the upcoming state assembly election from Wangjing Tentha Assembly constituency.
Manglem alleged the armed assailants to have been from Wangjing, the village of BJP MLA Paonam Brojen Singh. Speaking to media persons Manglem said that around 500 people who came from Wangjing , the village of BJP MLA Paonam Brojen, in various vehicles at around 7.30 pm yesterday started firing at his residence. Around 10 persons who were discussing for the upcoming election were reportedly injured in the attack.
A Police team of Thoubal rushed to the site and put the situation under control.
