In yet, a seemingly desperate attempt to curb the spike of Covid-19 pandemic in the state, normal life which was partially allowed to function has been put under complete standstill after the government of Manipur imposed the strictest ever curfew for 10 days starting from today.
Only men in khaki enforcing the curfew disallowing people from coming out of their respective homes were seen in almost all streets of the State, particularly in the state capital Imphal and other district headquarters. Shops, vegetable vendors, etc. which used to open for few hours during curfew and lockdown earlier have also been not allowed, only those people on emergency services and activities including testing or vaccination for Covid-19, hospitals, pharmacy, water supply and media persons on duty were allowed to travel during the curfew on the first day.
In Imphal West district, the Superintendent of Police Dr. S. Ibomcha, gives strict instruction to all police personnel to maintain strict rules. He personally visited for inspections of the police personnel on duty and encouraged them by distributing water, hand sanitizers, and face masks since morning today.
Same is in the Imphal East district, Thoubal district, Bishnupur district, Kakching district, Kangpokpi district, Ukhrul district Senapati district, Churachandpur district, Tamenglong district, Noney district, Kamjong district, Chandel district and Tengnoupal district. This time almost all the civil society bodies and individuals are giving full support to the government initiative.
The ten days stricter curfew has been imposed by all district magistrates following an order of the chairman of the State Executive Committee of the Disaster Management Authority in view of the unusual spike of the Covid-19 positive cases as well as the rise in the number of death.
During the month of July when the state authority imposed lockdown and curfew and started door-to-door testing as well as testing of the curfew violators, the highest number of positive cases was reported yesterday with 1,171 cases reported positive with covid-19 when tested 6,942 persons. The total number of death on the same day due to Covid-19 was reported as 15. The last 4 days sees 4 digit figures of covid-19 positive cases every day and the other days of July month recorded 3 digits covid-19 positive cases with 432 the lowest that was reported on July 5.
