Imphal, June 7:

An Incident of vandalism that occurred at JNIMS Covid ward by the patient party over the death of a lady has irked the doctors’ community across the state.
“It is matters of great shame for the state and insults to the whole medical community the manner in which the hospital properties were vandalized and doctor on duty was manhandled at the COVID Ward of JNIMS Hospital on the night of June 5, 2021 following the death of a patient”, a statement by Indian Medical Association said.
While condemning such an act, the IMA said that such a heinous act of violence in hospital when the state is facing the second wave of COVID 19 pandemic is unacceptable.
The perpetrators of the violence should be given exemplary punishment and booked under the ‘Manipur Medicare Service Personnel and Medicare Service Institutions (Prevention of Violence and Damage to Property) Act 2015’ and ‘Epidemic Disease (Amendment) Ordinance 2020’, the IMA demanded.
The association however, condole the untimely demise of Okram (O) Gypsy Devi and shares the grief of the bereaved family.
The association further reiterates that the culprits should be booked and befitting punishment be given failing which the association will take up future course of action. If such instances of violence against Medicare personals and institutions continue without any legal actions against those responsible then the whole COVID care may be hindered by these acts of senseless violence.
