Cyclone Tauktae, Worst is over, says NDRF chief

The cyclone Tauktae which created havoc and caused destruction in Kerala, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Goa and Lakshadweep in the last three days, made landfall in Gujarat on Monday evening and there are indications of it being weakened on Tuesday.
The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) Director General SN Pradhan on Tuesday said that the ‘worst is over’ and Cyclone Tauktae will “become a depression” by today evening. The cyclone has weakened into a cyclonic storm level and probably in another couple of hours it will become a cyclonic system which is a much lower category. By the time it reaches Gujarat coast in the late evening, it would have become a depression…The worst is over”
As of now it’s severe cyclonic storm, it’ll convert into cyclonic storm in 1 hr. It’ll go 50-60 km west of Ahmedabad. Wind speed will be 45-55 km/hr gusting to 65 km/hr. Isolated heavy rain likely in Ahmedabad and some other districts: Manorama Mohanty, Incharge Director, MET (Meteorological Office), Ahmedabad, tweeted.
Heavy to very heavy rain likely to take place in Amreli, Bhavnagar, Rajkot & Surendranagar. The cyclonic system is weakening and it will weaken further. Its impact will be in place only today,Mohanty added.
The sight screen below the press box (North Stand) at the Wankhede Stadium in South Mumbai was completely damaged by the strong winds. Besides over 400 trees were uprooted and heavy water-logging was seen all over Mumbai on Monday. Besides at least six people died along the coastal areas of Konkan.
